Just days after Vancouver Island had recovered from the last wicked wind storm, along comes another one, hitting the region with full force today.
Environment Canada issued wind warnings for Sunday, cautioning residents against the possibility of power outages and potential damages.
For many it’s a good excuse to stay inside, but others wouldn’t want to miss it for the world.
“It makes me feel energized,” said one storm watcher at Ogden Point, “It’s good to get out with the breeze on your face and the fresh air.”
In Parksville, it was a windsurfers dream come true, with powerful gusts propelling surfers to record speeds on the water.
But the wind wasn’t enough to deter volunteers who had signed up to help clean up garbage from Dallas Beach today.
“It’s so easy to look outside and be like i don’t want to go right now,” said event organizer Emily Graham, who was impressed that dozens of people turned up, “but people were bundled in their rain jackets and ready to go. It’s awesome to see who doesn’t care about the weather, and who cares about the cause.”
The wind is expected to keep gusting into the evening, so Vancouver Island residents are being warned to remain on alert.
