Victoria police took a man into custody after a five-hour stand off at Paul’s Motor Inn Friday.
Police were called to the hotel just after 7:30am, and decided to close Chatham Street to traffic and evacuate other hotel guests around two hours later.
Staff Sgt. Matt Waterman said a man in a first-floor room had threatened to harm himself, or police if they tried to intervene, but it was unclear whether or not he was actually armed.
Police negotiators convinced him to surrender around 12:30pm. He was taken into custody, and then for medical assessment.
Police say the investigation is ongoing, and there are no charges at this time.
