A Victoria mother faces a first degree murder charge in the death of her 18-month-old daughter last September.
Kaela Janine Mehl was arrested yesterday by the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit, with the assistance of VicPD investigators and the West Shore RCMP.
On September 16th, officers were called to a home in the 12-hundred block of Vista Heights in Victoria to check on the welfare of a baby.
They arrived at 6 am to discover a toddler had succumbed despite efforts to resuscitate her.
Mehl, who was taken to hospital at the time, has now been charged with one charge of first degree murder.
A bail hearing was held yesterday, details of which are covered by a publication ban.
More to come.
