Hundreds came out to Victoria City Hall Monday to support the LGBTQ community and stand in solidarity with the victims of the Orlando shooting
A large crowd gathered at Victoria City Hall for a short ceremony to honour the victims of the Orlando nightclub shooting.
Mayor Lisa Helps delivered a powerful speech, while many in the crowd wiped away tears, and hugged one another.
“This could have been you, it could have been me, it could have been any of us gay, lesbian, queer, bi, trans, tw0-spirited plus folks who go to such bars to find community, or even just to dance freely with the people we love,” said Helps.
“We’re here to stand together to affirm that all love is okay that all love is welcome in the City of Victoria,” said Helps.
The pride flag was raised in front of city hall and then lowered to half-mast while the crowd took part in a moment of silence to remember the victims of the Orlando massacre.
