The 22-year-old is scheduled for kidney surgery.
The fundraising phenom who collected pennies and captured our hearts so many years ago, has so far had 25 surgeries. The 26th will happen Friday.
“I’m having my left kidney removed because the kidney is completely blocked,” says Jeneece.
It’s an issue Jeneece and her family never expected.
“The kidney wasn’t something that was on our list of problems that we had to begin with this is totally new,” says mom Angie. “Some where along the line through one of her surgeries her ureter got attached to her spine.”
Jeneece’s other kidney is functioning well, for now.
“This is her good kidney right? I worry about things like this. It looks like there’s some areas where it could possibly kink up on her.”
The Edroffs are worried about the outcome and the future but there really is no other choice.
“She’s been living with this kind of pain for a good year now and it’s taking it’s toll on her. It’s basically like giving birth is what the pain is like and non-stop.”
Jeneece hopes to soon return to school and to work and through it all, the sunny, endearing, resilience shines through.
“It kind of makes me nervous and scared, but there’s nothing else we can do and its part of life and I’ve just got to keep going,” she say.
