Two island hoping grizzly bears caught near Alert Bay
Two grizzly bears who island-hopped to the village of Alert Bay, creating concern for locals as they roamed town for several days have been captured.
Conservation officers say the small of the two male bears was captured with a leg snare trap, while the second larger grizzly found its way into a barrel trap that had been set up.
It was the first time grizzlies have arrived on Cormorant Island, forcing residents to drive children to school, pack up fishing equipment, and take other bear-proofing precautions.
Conservation Officers say the bears have been ear-tagged and will be relocated to the mainland.
