Two men managed to swim to safety after their tugboat sank near Halfmoon Bay on the Sunshine Coast.

The sinking happened at around 3-40 p-m yesterday off Merry Island in the Georgia Strait.

The skipper and deckhand were the only people aboard the boat and they were uninjured after swimming to the island.

The Coast Guard’s Environmental Response department will be in charge of whatever happens next with the sunken vessel.
