A traffic nightmare played out during the lunch hour Monday afternoon for those trying to make their way back to Victoria on the Trans Canada Highway.
Witnesses described the scene as an absolute mess.
The two southbound lanes of the TCH at the Millstream exit, were completely blocked by an overturned truck and trailer.
Debris from the trailer was strewn across the road and the grassy median.
RCMP say it appears the trailer started swaying back and forth and caught the edge of the pavement, causing it to flip.
The driver and sole occupant of the truck was not hurt.
Traffic, on a busy holiday Monday, was backed up for kilometres even as drivers tried to avoid the scene by detouring through Langford.
A back-hoe and a dump truck were called in to assist tow trucks trying to clear the wreckage in was police call a very complicated clean-up.
About three hours after the accident happened, the highway was re-opened at about 3:15 this afternoon.
RCMP say there is no indication at this point that speed or impairment were factors in the crash.
