A BC Transit bus was badly damaged by a fire that started as it traveled on the Trans-Canada Highway this afternoon.
There were no passengers on board the hybrid bus when the driver was alerted by another motorist that there was smoke spewing out of the rear of the vehicle.
It happened around 1:40 p.m. near the Millstream exit of the TCH near Thetis Lake as the bus was being driven back to the depot in Langford.
The driver quickly pulled over onto the side of the road and got out.
Witnesses there at the time reported seeing the fire engulf the rear of the vehicle.
The RCMP shut down two northbound lanes while Langford firefighters worked to douse the flames.
The fire was put out and the lanes re-opened by 2:30 p.m.
No word yet on the cause.
