Nanaimo sidewalks and shops were packed with cruise ship visitors Wednesday as the massive Explorer of the Seas unloaded thousands of tourists on the Harbour City. The huge vessel pulled into harbour at first light Wednesday, dwarfing the surrounding downtown.
When visitors stepped off the ship they were greeted by a troupe of young Nanaimo fiddlers and volunteers helping direct them, and deliver a personal small town welcome. This is the first of six large cruise ships to dock in Nanaimo in 2016, doubling last year’s total. Each visit is expected to deliver an immediate impact of $250,000 to the region.
