Their motto is “Be Prepared” but little could have readied 1st Scouts in Nanaimo for what has happened to them this month.
The hut holding their camping equipment and other items has been targeted by thieves on three separate occasions.
The first break-in on March 3rd saw the Scouts lose an estimated $1500 worth of gear including 4 tents.
RCMP says thieves used bolt cutters to remove padlocks to individual lockers and the storeroom, where the camping supplies were stored.
Parents contacted CHEK News late today to tell us that since the locks were changed, thieves have struck again, twice.
Missing now from the 1st Nanaimo Scout hut on Comox Road is some of the equipment generously donated after the other gear was stolen.
Parents had hoped any planned activities could continue thanks to the donations including $1500 they received from the Esquimalt Legion last week.
Now all purchases have been put on hold until police make an arrest or the hut can be secured in such a way that it can’t be targeted again.
If you have any information regarding the case, please call Nanaimo RCMP.
