A man jumped from a small roof outside a second-floor window to escape a fire in Colwood late this afternoon.
Colwood and View Royal Fire and Rescue crews arrived at the townhouse on the 300-block of Wale Road around 5 pm.
They found one tenant, the only one at home, had climbed out a window and onto a small roof to escape heavy smoke.
Rescue crews tried to get him down but he jumped.
He wasn’t injured but was taken to hospital to be treated for possible smoke inhalation.
The fire was contained to one bedroom of one unit in the three unit townhouse but three tenants have been forced out for now.
“Other people that live in the unit, they’ve found alternate accommodation, ” said Captain Frank Gale of Colwood Fire and Rescue
“We’re going to board it up tonight and our investigating team will be back in tomorrow to find the cause of the fire.”
Gale estimates the damage, mainly caused by smoke, to be approximately of $50,000.
