Protesters trying to save a maple tree in Duncan yesterday got a temporary victory.
At a special meeting Wednesday, the Cowichan Valley Regional District agreed that a community meeting will be held to discuss the matter on July 11th.
No action will be taken until that gathering takes place.
The tree is slated to be cut down as part of project to expand the parking lot at the Island Savings Centre.
Protesters say it is a historic landmark that should be preserved, CVRD staff say the maple tree is near the end of its life and poses a safety concern.
