Search and Rescue crews spent Friday combing the rugged, hilly terrain of Copper Canyon after a suspicious sighting early in the morning.
Search crews from Ladysmith and Cowichan Search and Rescue teams combined forces to scour the massive area.
A logging truck driver spotted a green and blue flare shooting up into the sky over the road at 4:30 a.m. Friday and called in RCMP who actived search teams.
A helicopter was also sent into the air.
With volunteers on foot, all terrain vehicles and trucks hitting the ground, to assist.
But after five hours combing all surrounding areas looking for abandoned vehicles, or any sign of a person in need of help in the bush, teams stood down at about 2 p.m. Friday.
The file remains open with RCMP, and crews say they will re-activate over the weekend if needed.
