Sunfest is sizzling in the Cowichan Valley this weekend, as 15,000 music fans flood the gates of Laketown Ranch and businesses of Lake Cowichan, packing shops, restaurants and the river that runs through it with happy tourists.
The temporary swell in the population was visible all over Lake Cowichan, as the community just a few minutes from Laketown Ranch benefited from the influx of country fans from all over. Residents say it’s just the economic impact they had been hoping for from the four-day music festival.
“I think it’s great. I think this is exactly what this place needs is more exposure and once the people get to see what’s here and the beautiful country and the friendly people I think it’s gonna be awesome,” said Valerie Rajala. “I was the president of the Chamber of Commerce for six years and this is something that I always wanted to see. Always. I’ve wanted to see people excited.”
Country music star Carrie Underwood thrilled a record crowd Saturday. The music festival wraps up Sunday night, with a performance from Dierks Bentley. Country star Toby Keith is already set to headline next year’s Sunfest.
