The crew of the Spirit of British Columbia sprang into action Saturday afternoon, after a man went overboard on the 3pm sailing from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay.
BC Ferries says the vessel was about six kilometres out of dock when passengers reported seeing someone go over the side.
The crew stopped the ferry and launched a rescue boat, which was able to pull a man from the water. The rescue boat took the man to Tsawwassen, where an ambulance was waiting, and the ferry then returned to dock as well so the man’s travelling companion could be taken to the hospital.
No information was immediately available on the man’s condition.
The Spirit of BC resumed sailing an hour and twenty minutes behind schedule, and delays are being reported on both sides of the route as a result.
