Sooke Fire Chief Steve Soronson calls it a career after more than three decades as a fire fighter, starting as a volunteer in 1980.
After 36 years fighting fires in Sooke, fire chief Steve Sorenson is hanging up his white helmet for the last time.
Sorenson started as a volunteer fire fighter in 1980, before making the move to full-time in 1997, and was appointed chief twelve years later.
With the incorporation of Sooke in 1999, he became Sooke’s first official employee.
His retirement begins officially in October, which he intends to spend time restoring a 1930 fire truck.
