WATCH: Dozens gathered at a contenscious Shawnigan Lake property to protest what they call issues of non-compliance at a contaminated soil dumping site.
MLA Bill Routley, Green Party Leader Andrew Weaver and others spoke out at the Stebbings Road site this morning, accusing the operators of breaching the conditions of their permit and accusing the Ministry of Environment of not making any effort to intervene.
The operators of the site, South Island Resource Management, issued a statement today saying they “regularly communicate with the Ministry of Environment and it is aware of any operational issues as they may occur”. And that the company is” working to resolve the issues within the prescribed timeframe.”
A judicial review ruling on the site is expected next month.
