A mechanical equipment failure overnight caused unscreened sewage to be discharged through the Clover Point short outfall for roughly 30 minutes.
As a result, people are advised to avoid swimming or wading in waters along the Ross Bay Area shorelines, as the wastewater may pose a health risk.
Beaches within the affected areas will be posted with public health advisory signs.
The Capital Regional District is in the process of collecting samples along the affected shorelines
The equipment failure, that began at 3:15 am, has been fixed so the pump station is now operating normally according to the CRD.
