Strawberries, and other events, took over Beaver Lake Park for two hours in Saanich Sunday, highlighted by strawberries and ice cream.
Of course there is much more than just strawberries on hand for this popular family festival.
There are two entertainment stages, a kids zone with bouncy castles, hamster ball race, and face painting.
A crowd of roughly eight-thousand came out throughout the day to enjoy the festivities, with a highlight being the serving of strawberries and ice cream.
“they kicked off the strawberry festival to focus on the farming community back then, it’s blossomed into a festival with a wide variety of activities, information booths and kids activities over the years,” says Saanich Strawberry Festival Organizer Rob Phillips.
“I live in Saanich so i have a strong community connection and I look forward to this every year, it’s quite chaotic once it starts, two hours go by really fast,” says 40-year Festival Volunteer Laureen Dagneault
Dagneault has been volunteering at the event since she was 13 years old.
This year she joined 40 other volunteers in serving four-thousand cups of strawberries and ice cream over just two hours.
