A bear sighting in Bow Park on Monday prompted a safety warning from Saanich police.

Police said the bear was spotted at around 9 p.m. in the park, which is located north of McKenzie Avenue. The bear was seen near the park’s small pond.

Saanich police patrol units went to the park but were not able to find the animal. The BC Conservation Officer Service was told about the sighting.

Residents, parents of children who may be playing in the area and people visiting the park are advised to be aware of the sighting.

This is the second warning prompted by a reported bear sighting this past week. A bear was seen on the Royal Roads University campus Sunday morning. The university then advised people in the area to walk in pairs.
