Two people including the 53-year old driver were taken to hospital after a small retirement home bus crashed into the side of Nanaimo McDonald’s on Wednesday.

It happened at Bowen Road and Dufferin Crescent around 10 a.m.

There were no passengers on the bus at the time.

The driver, who may have suffered from a medical issue, appears to have lost control, gone through a red light and collided with another vehicle before slamming into the restaurant.

No one was seriously hurt but both the driver and the 23-year old female driver of the other vehicle were taken to hospital.

The building had to be evacuated because of the possibility of structural damage.
