A group of citizens in Central Saanich is preparing to take on the Capital Regional District to maintain access to Island View Beach, an area popular for outdoor recreation and dog walking
Island View Beach is used by thousands of people each year, many there to let their dogs run off leash.
But the Capital Regional District is planning to designate the majority of the park an environmental protection zone, and a group opposed to the plan says that would prevent the public from using all but a small section of it.
The Friends of Island View Beach has already gathered more than 1400 signatures on a petition urging the CRD to keep the park as it is.
The group suggests anyone concerned contact the CRD and tell them not to go ahead with the plan and to sign the petition.
