Robin Richardson announces he’s formed a new political party
A newly formed political party is calling for Vancouver Island to become Canada’s 11th province “as soon as possible” according to a mission statement posted on-line.
The Vancouver Island Party was formed last month and is led by former Toronto-area Progressive Conservative MP (1979-80) Dr. Robin Richardson.
”Our beloved Island’s distinct way of life is under threat from severe climate change, federal and provincial government indifference and economic, social and environmental injustices,” the Victoria resident and pastor writes.
“We need to join together to form a new province of Vancouver Island.”
With a provincial election next year, Richardson says his team hopes to have candidates in all 14 electoral districts on Vancouver Island in place by the end of November.
He describes the party as centrist in nature.
“We are fiscally conservative, socially progressive and environmentally green,” he writes.
In 2000, Richardson challenged former MP Keith Martin for the Canadian Alliance nomination in federal riding of Esquimalt-Juan de Fuca and lost.
