WATCH: B.C. Government issues a deadline for Victoria’s controversial Tent City and the campers could be forced to leave by the end of the month
Time may be running out for Victoria’s controversial Tent City.
The B.C. Government is now issuing an ultimatum and a deadline to the campers.
The Province now says the campers have until May 25th to obey an order from the Victoria Fire Department to put out their fire, take down all structures and move their tents further apart.
If they don’t comply, the Province will seek a court order to evict them.
“If they are not complying by the 25th, I think we have a direct responsibility to get before the courts as soon as possible, so the attorney general would take care of that piece,” said housing minister Rich Coleman.
Coleman says if the Province does get an injunction, Tent City could be shut down as soon as the end of the month.
