BC Housing Minister Rich Coleman says the province will go back to court next week to seek an injunction to dismantle Victoria’s Tent City.
Coleman made the announcement in reaction to the BC Fire Commissioner’s report on the fire safety risk at the encampment.
The report says it is “just a matter of time before a serious fire incident occurs”. Read the report here: Courthouse Camp Report May 25, 2016
Meanwhile, more than 100 BC academics, many from UVic, are calling on the province to abandon its legal efforts.
The open letter says “growing unfounded hostility” has become common in public and media portrayals that serve to increase inaccurate perceptions about homeless people. Read the Open Letter here: 101 Academics-open letter to the Province_ May 27
