BC Ferries to resume Bella Coola – Port Hardy route in 2018
A BC Ferries route between northern Vancouver Island and the mainland cut three years ago is about to be re-floated.
Premier Christy Clark now says a direct service between Port Hardy and Bella Coola will resume in the summer of 2018.
A cost cutting move three years ago eliminated the summer Bella Coola-Port Hardy direct sailings with a service requiring a transfer at Bella Bella.
It also replaced a 115-car ship with a 16-car ferry.
Those changes resulted in widespread criticism from the tourism industry, affected communities, and international travelers.
Now Clark says the direct sailing will resume in 2018 when an appropriately sized ship is available.
