Port Alberni RCMP are investigating after a 73-year old man died in hospital Tuesday following a two-vehicle collision.

The crash happened at 9:13 a.m on 10th Avenue, when the Port Alberni man is believed to have suffered a sudden medical emergency while at the wheel of a Dodge Journey.

His vehicle then drove up onto the curb just before Burde Street, it entered the intersection and struck a Toyota Highlander that was stopped at a stop sign.

The force of the collision caused the Toyota to be pushed into a nearby yard destroying a brick fence.

The driver of the Toyota was not hurt.

The driver of the Dodge was taken to hospital where he later died from what appears to be the result of the medical emergency.

The BC Coroners Service is assisting with the investigation.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash, s asked to contact Cst. Fawcett of the Port Alberni RCMP at 250-723-2424.
