A pedestrian is in hospital in Nanaimo in critical but stable condition after being struck in a hit-and-run this afternoon.
Nanaimo RCMP say the driver of the vehicle left the roadway, drove up onto the sidewalk and struck an adult male around 1:50 p.m.
It happened as the man was sat a bus stop near the pedestrian crosswalk across from Beban Park on Bowen Road.
Witnesses say the victim was either standing at or walking by the bus stop when a the driver of a vehicle travelling southbound drove up onto the sidewalk and struck the man.
The vehicle didn’t stop and continued southbound on Bowen Road.
Police continue to search for the driver and the vehicle, described as a dark grey import that may have damage to the right front corner.
Part of Bowen Road is currently blocked off as investigators continue to piece together possible evidence.
