Drivers who use the Pat Bay Highway are being warned to expect delays as construction work on a key section of the busy highway starts Monday, and will last for months.
The $3.8 million project on Highway 17 near Elk Lake, between Sayward and Haliburton roads, will include re-paving about three kilometres on the highway as well as safety improvements at Cordova Bay Road, which will affect traffic patterns.
The Ministry of Transportation says most of the work will be done at night when traffic isn’t as heavy and no work will be done on long weekends.
Traffic lights at Sayward and Haliburton will also be adjusted to try and reduce the delays but drivers are being advised to give themselves extra time to get to the ferry or airport.
It’s expected the construction project will be completed by the Fall.
