One man remains in custody and police are appealing for witnesses after reports a man was threatened with a firearm during an altercation in Victoria yesterday
It all started between 6:15 and 6:30 Tuesday night on Douglas near Burnside East.
“A male reported what appeared to be a firearm pointed at him,” says Cst. Matt Rutherford of the Victoria Police Department.
There are reports it was all over a road rage incident, but police are not confirming that.
After questioning the alleged victim, police were led to a home on Edgeware road near Hillside Mall.
“We determined that one of the individuals we were interested in speaking with regarding the altercation was inside the residence,” said Sgt. Michael Brown.
Several officers converged on the home, weapons drawn – hoping for a peaceful resolution, but prepared for the worst.
“We have to protect the residents as well as our police members and protect the people inside. So that’s why we take things very methodically when we work through things like this,” said Cst. Rutherford.
It was a startling scene for neighbours as they watched police take over the block.
“There was a police car blocking the road. Then just a couple officers with their weapons out, bit of a standoff I guess,” said Paul Gudaitis, who lives across the street.
After about an hour, officers moved in and and took three people in to custody. Two have since been released, while the third man is expected to face weapons charges.
Meanwhile, police executed a search warrant at the home today, where they recovered a number of firearms.
But many questions remain, and police are hoping someone out there can provide some answers.
” If anyone was in the area, the 2900 block of Douglas about 6:30 last night , saw anything suspicious, give us a call, looking for any witnesses to the event,” says Rutherford.
