North Island College’s Office of Global Engagement is hoping residents can help international students when more arrive in December.

The college is calling on Comox Valley households to host those students who begin classes in January because of a tight rental market.

“If you have space to share, please let us know,” NIC’s Executive Director of Global Engagement Thevi Pather said.

“Some of our students come a long way to study and live in our community.”

Pather added, “we want them to be successful and experience the best the Comox Valley has to offer.”

NIC says about one-third of their international students attending class this September live in homestay and peerstay accommodations.

The Comox Valley Community Foundation Vital Signs Report showed a 0.5 per cent rental vacancy rate.

NIC says the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation reports the regions’ rental vacancy rate at one per cent.
