Victoria product Nolan Thoroughgood becomes the youngest ever BC Amateur Champion.
The 15 year old was the Cinderella story of the tournament, coming in virtually unknown, and walking away with the hardware in the end. Even crazier, Nolan has only been playing golf for four years, enrolling in the junior program at the Royal Colwood Golf Club at 11 years old. This was Thoroughgood’s second appearance in the amateur circuit. Thoroughgood shot a five under par in the first round on Tuesday, and continued to make his shots throughout the week, and wound up holding onto the top spot at Pheasant Glen Golf Resort.
Thoroughgood broke the record currently held by Surrey product Adam Svensson, who won the tournament when he was 16, and is now playing on the Web.com tour.
With the win, Thoroughgood gives himself an entry to many upcoming tournaments, including a spot on BC’s three-man team in next month’s Canadian Amateur Championship in Ottawa, as well as an entry into the Canadian Junior Boys Championship, which takes place August 1-4 in St. Johns, Newfoundland.
