It’s an interactive feature that combines light & sound in a unique and creative manner.
David Parfit & Scott Amos have a business called Monkey C Interactive that comes up with exciting and wildly unique art installations.
In this case, they’ve installed new hand rails on the Bastion Square staircase of the parkade which features sensors you can cover to create various musical sounds and stimulate a mini light show on the walls.
The creation was in response to the city’s Art in Public Places Committee competition to “liven up” the parkade. $10,000 was budgeted from the Public Art Reserve Fund.
As much fun as the creation is during the day, it takes on an entirely different look and feel after dark. It’s a bit addictive with many people, of all ages, spending a fair bit of time playing on the landings, each one with its own distinctive sounds.
