Fire crews have extinguished an RV and brush fire, which disrupted traffic on Highway 19 in Nanoose Saturday.

The Nanoose Bay Volunteer Fire Department responded just after 3 p.m. to reports of a vehicle fire south of Dawson Road on the major roadway.

They arrived to find a RV fully engulfed in flames, with the blaze spreading to the nearby woods.

The highway was reduced to a single lane northbound during the incident.

“There is no suspected cause yet, it could be overheating,” said Doug Penny, Nanoose Bay Volunteer Fire Department Cheif.

“We had one vehicle attack the RV and another attacked the bush.”

The occupants did remove the propane tanks during the incident, a move applauded by officials.

The exact cause of the fire has not been released.
