A majority of those who went to the polls in Nanaimo today voted against the borrowing of $80 million for an Events Centre.
The vote split was a resounding 80% against.
Sheila Gurrie, Nanaimo’s Chief Election Officer announced the results tonight at Nanaimo City Hall.
The issue has been a decisive one, in the run up to the referendum vote today.
Nanaimo City Council had said a Western Hockey League Team would be an anchor tenant in the facility if it was approved and built.
