The city of Nanaimo is getting into the spirit of Pride week with updates to two downtown crosswalks.
Following in the footsteps of other cities around the North America, including Victoria, the colours of the rainbow were painted on two crosswalks at the intersection of Bastion and Commercial Sunday evening.
The decoration is to help celebrate diversity and inclusivity.
City of Nanaimo councillor Gord Fuller called it, “Another huge step towards cementing Nanaimo’s embracement of diversity within the community.”
Rick Myers, president of the Nanaimo Pride Society invited the “entire community to join us, arm in arm, as we walk our rainbow crosswalks with a newfound sense of acceptance, of community, and of pride. We are so incredibly grateful to the City for this display of support that sends a clear message that every citizen of Nanaimo is loved, is accepted and is appreciated, just the way they are. Thank you.”
Pride Week in Nanaimo runs from June 8th to 12th.
