Wire was found strung across biking trail.
Nanaimo mounties are warning mountain bikers and other trail riders after a wire was found strung across a trail near Barsby Lake southwest of Nanaimo.
“So what she found was quite alarming. There were stakes at a 45 degree angle stuck in the ground and a wire strung at neck level on this trail used by mountain bikers, dirt bikers and any enthusiast who are out there. Extremely disconcerting” said Nanaimo RCMP Constable Gary O’Brien.
The stakes were found in the ground where they could have impaled someone if they had of fallen off their bike. The stakes and the wire were found last week on a trail near a logging road that accesses Barsby Lake, which is about 13 kilometres from the intersection of Wakesiah along Nanaimo Lakes Road.
“The fact is that if someone had hit that wire, fallen on the stakes they could have been seriously injured or it could even have caused death” added O’Brien.
Police have no suspects and are asking anyone with information to call them at 250-754-2345.
