Nanaimo RCMP investigate violent assault as possible hate crime

Nanaimo RCMP are investigating a violent assault as a possible hate crime. 

A visiting businessman  met another man, they went to a hotel room where the victim was allegedly assaulted, threatened, tied up and robbed.

He alerted police at 8:48am on Thursday.

The victim received numerous injuries and was taken to hospital  where he required surgery.

Police are looking for a 30-year old white male.

He is balding in front and has a moustache and goatee.

The suspect was last seen wearing a white short-sleeve shirt, dark jeans and flip flops.

“We are asking the public to assist in identifying the suspect in this crime,” said Corporal Jon Stuart.

“We are also trying to determine if the victim was targeted based on his sexual orientation.”
