Rainbow crosswalks help celebrate Nanaimo’s Pride Week.
The city of Nanaimo is getting into the spirit of Pride Week with updates to two downtown crosswalks.
Following in the footsteps of other cities around the North America, including Victoria, the colours of the rainbow were painted on two crosswalks at the intersection of Bastion and Commercial yesterday.
The decoration is intended to help celebrate diversity and inclusiveness.
“We invite the entire community to join us, arm in arm, as we walk our rainbow crosswalks with a new found sense of acceptance, of community, and of pride,” says Nanaimo Pride Society President Rick Myers.
Councillor Gord Fuller calls the project, “another huge step towards cementing Nanaimo‘s embracement of diversity within the community.”
Pride Week in Nanaimo runs from June 8th to 12th.
