RCMP are warning mountain bikers after the discovery of wire, strung at neck level, across a trail in Nanaimo.
Also found on the trail were wooden stakes driven into the cycling path.
A Nanaimo woman made the alarming find Saturday and alerted RCMP.
The trail is located on a logging road that accesses Barsby Lake, approximately 13 kms from Wakesiah Ave, along Nanaimo Lakes Road.
The hazards have been removed and RCMP are investigating. No suspects have been identified.
“These items could have caused serious injury to an unsuspecting mountain biker or someone on a dirt bike. There have been no other similar reports in that area so we are hoping it was a onetime incident. Having said that, we are looking to the public to assist in identifying who may be responsible”, said Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.
If anyone has information on this incident, please contact the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
