As cherry blossoms break out in full bloom in Greater Victoria, and the march of trees budding out stretches up Island snow enthusiasts are enjoying a whole different experience atop Mount Washington.
The early Spring ski season is delivering new snowfall to an already dense base that’s some of the best skiers have seen.
Hills are dense with snow and happy visitors atop Mount Washington, as the approach of spring at sea level, takes an altogether different look up here.
“It’s definitely a lot of woo-hooing people getting in the first runs. The snow conditions have been just epic these last 7 to 8 days,” says Mount Washington’s Don Sharpe. “These past few days we’ve just been hammered. Last 48 hours 20 centimetres of snow and we’re sitting at about a 400 cm base. ”
The resort is scheduled to be open until April 10th and with more snow in the forecast for the next seven days straight spring break on Vancouver Island is promising to look more like winter up here, for weeks to come.
