Andre Leon Blignaut, aged 54, of Duncan was travelling northbound on Nicol Street and collided with a southbound Honda Prelude just before 6:00 a.m.
The Prelude was turning left-turning onto Needham Street.
Mr. Blignaut was taken first to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital and then flown to Vancouver General Hospital. He died shortly after arriving.
The driver of the Honda, a 23-year-old man from Nanaimo, was not injured but was emotionally distraught.
