A motorcycle driver was seriously injured in a Nanaimo crash Thursday night, according to police.
Nanaimo RCMP said at around 11 p.m., police responded to a report of a serious collision on Island Highway North, near Turner Round.
According to police, a northbound vehicle was rear-ended by a motorcycle, which was also going north. Police said the motorcyclist lost control then collided with a second northbound motorcycle.
The driver of the first motorcycle suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.
As a result of the collision, the highway was shut down for several hours, and a collision analyst was called in.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and may take time to investigate the details leading up to the collision, and any contributing factors.
The highway was opened for traffic just before the morning commute began.
Back in April, mid-Vancouver Island had three serious motorcycle collisions within one week.
