A Vancouver Island mom has turned to Facebook to make a poignant appeal to parents to vaccinate their children.
In a message posted to Facebook Friday, Annie Mae Braiden writes that she was reluctant to speak out but felt she had to.
“I think people need to see what not vaccinating their kids do to the OTHER kids,” she wrote.
Her 10-week old daughter is being treated at Victoria General Hospital for whooping cough.
Isabelle has been in the pediatric intensive care unit for more than a month and spent weeks on a ventilator.
“We were hours away from losing her,” she wrote.
“The nurse picked her up and ran her down the hall to the ICU to get her ventilated because we were losing her.”
Braiden posted several photos of Isabelle taken at Victoria General Hospital.
“She has to learn how to eat all over again, she’s going through major withdrawals from the morphine and sedative she was on when she was ventilated,” she wrote.
“Do you know how hard it is to watch your 10 week old go through withdrawals??!!”
Braiden believes that Isabelle’s condition is proof that not vaccinating children harms others who aren’t old enough to get their vaccines yet.
“Please vaccinate your kids, ” she wrote.
“It’s not fair that my little girl is in the PICU coughing and not being able to breath from a disease that shouldn’t be around in this day and age.”
