Search and Rescue crews in North Cowichan combed rugged terrain all day in an effort to find a person in distress.
Ladysmith and Cowichan Search and Rescue teams searched the massive area known as Copper Canyon.
That after a logging truck driver on this road, spotted a green and blue flare shooting up into the sky over the road at 4:30 this morning and called in RCMP who activated search teams.
” Searching all the main roads, secondary roads and the spurs off those secondary roads. Absolutely nothing found of any interest. ” said Shauneen Nichols of Ladysmith Search and Rescue.
But the green blue light that the driver saw may not have been a flare at all, it may have been a bright meteor known as a bolide.
A bolide was captured by an all-sky camera in Comox belonging to amateur astronomer Sid Sidhu at 4:35 a.m. Friday.
and a green blue meteor was recorded on a dash-cam streaking across the sky in Everett, Washington at the same time.
Victoria astronomer David Balem says that a bolide produces that same green blue colour that the logging truck driver believed was a flare.
“That is the characteristic colour of a bolide and the timing is correct.” he wrote in an email tonight.
