Police close Thetis Lake Park for several hours as search broadens for suspects
A massive manhunt for two men closed Thetis Lake Park for a few hours this afternoon.
And police are still asking the public to stay away from the area.
They are searching for two men they describe as “armed, and dangerous”.
While they won’t connect this search with the drive-by shooting in Sooke earlier this week, they are not taking any chances.
It’s a huge police presence in the Highlands.
Westshore RCMP Cst. Alex Berube says Saanich canine unit is called in to assist in the search for two male suspects, believed to be armed and dangerous.
“Police were at a house on Lost Lake Road as part of an ongoing investigation, and were looking to speak with the two suspects.
The two suspects fled on foot, and went towards the bushes.”
RCMP called in more resources, including Victoria Police, the RCMP emergency response team, and the RCMP helicopter.
A drive-by shooting in Sooke Tuesday night left two men wounded, both well-known to police.
Arrested Wednesday, Dustin David Brown is charged with two counts of attempted murder using a firearm.
Two other suspects are still at large.
25 year old Joshua Nickolas Lefleur, on the Crime Stoppers most wanted list since 2014.
The third is still unidentified.
“In light of the shooting that happened in Sooke, we’re looking at the possibility that there could be a linkage between the two investigations.”
And taking no chances.
An officer hides in the bush, then steps out to stop and search each vehicle travelling on Lost Lake Road.
“She just told me that they are keeping it blocked off in the interest of public safety.
They can’t say what it is.”
Then a possible sighting of the suspects near Upper Thetis Lake.
The search area broadens, with more officers involved.
They’re looking for any sign of the suspects; both wearing dark clothing, one barefoot, the other in white shoes.
As police shut down the park, closing access to all public areas, park users head for safety.
As the afternoon progresses, they suspend the search in the Highlands, but the manhunt for the suspects will continue.
