Marriage proposal written in chalk delights Ogden Point visitors

WATCH: People walking the breakwater at Ogden Point were in for a surprise Wednesday as they caught a glimpse of a story written beneath their feet. And while the chalk may soon wash away, many who saw it hope the tale will see two people live happily ever after. CHEK News caught up with the couple recently.

Scott MacFarlane and Megan Brand have only known each other for about six months. But as Brand says, “when you know, you know.”

She said “yes” to her now-fiance after he proposed to her at the Ogden Point breakwater.

His proposal was an elaborate one: a series of messages written with sidewalk chalk, all the way to the end of the breakwater.

MacFarlane says he got the idea ten years ago and thought it would be a great thing to do.

“We had a crowd of people in front of us that one of my buddies came up with, and she got closer and then they parted ways and I was on my knee with a red balloon behind me and I said, ‘Megan, would you marry me?’ and she was all crying and it was great,” MacFarlane said.

“I had to think about it for a second,” Brand said. “But it was a yes.”

The couple is now deciding on a wedding venue.
