Man hits head on rock after diving accident at Stotan Falls.
A Comox Valley man has been taken to hospital after a diving accident at Stotan Falls near Courtenay this evening.
Firefighters used a rope system and a special stretcher to pull the man up a steep bank after he was dragged from the waters of the Puntledge River at Stotan Falls.
It happened around 5:30.
The man injured himself after diving into shallow waters.
“The patient was about 300 metres downstream off the side of the road. I guess he dove off the top of the falls and hit the top of his head on a rock. Got crews here, got him on a board and the mule wheel you just saw here, hauled him up on ropes up the bank and wheeled him out” said Courtenay Fire Chief Don Bardonnex in an interview with CHEK News at the scene.
He credited hikers who were in the area with pulling the man from the river and keeping him stable until firefighters arrived.
The man was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox with unknown injuries.
