Man dead after police standoff in Port Coquitlam

One man is dead after a police standoff In Port Coquitlam on Sunday night. 

RCMP were called to a residence in the 2100 block of Audrey Drive just after 7 p.m. for a report of a distraught man with a gun. According to police, the complaint indicated the man had allegedly fired shots into the air outside his residence before police were called. 

When officers arrived at the scene, they contained the area to wait for the arrival of the Integrated Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team (ERT). An armed man was found outside a residence and shots wee allegedly fired. The man was later found dead by ERT members behind a vehicle with what is believed at this time to be a self-inflicted injury. 

No RCMP members or other individuals were injured. 

The Independent Investigation Office of B.C. has been notified. They will conduct the investigation to determine if there is a connection between the police actions and the suspect’s injuries.
